Focus: In this research area, we focus on the description of attitudes towards end-of-life decisions (i.e. with regard to assisted suicide, passive and active assisted dying) in Austria and their determinants (e.g. religiosity, fear of dying, trust in physicians) based on population-representative survey studies. In addition, we study medicine and the health care system during the time of National Socialism (1938-1945) in Austria (“euthanasia program”) and its current ethical relevance. Results from our research are published in scientific journals focusing on the health care system as well as medical ethics.
